Potash Plant Fertilizer All Purpose for Plant Health,

Potash gets its name from the referral to plant ashes soaked in water in a pot; it’s defined as various mined and manufactured salts that contain potassium in a water-soluble form. Potash is important to agriculture because potassium helps protect plants from disease and pests. Potassium also helps plants adjust to dynamic weather conditions, strengthen stalks, and encourages them to absorb more nutrients.

When potash is used on crops, such as corn, wheat, and vegetables, it helps increase the quantity and quality of yields. Potassium is an essential nutrient for all plants and helps regulate the water in a plant, as well as the intake and movement of nutrients around the plant. If a plant does not have access to enough potassium, the crop will struggle to use water well.

Potash Shortages leads to:

œ – Lower yields
œ – Weaker stems
œ – Reduced response to nitrogen
œ – Increased risk of damage by drought
œ – Resistance to disease is reduced
œ – Lower marketable quality

In Processing potatoes, Potash is very important for yield and long-term color, however too much potash can lower the specific gravity if not balanced with other nutrients. Potatoes take up more potash than most crops, so it is important to fertilize with a form of potassium in order to maintain proper levels in the soil. All soil contains potassium; however only a small portion is available for crop use. There are three reasons why potash should be applied to a potato crop; to increase yield, to maintain soil potassium fertility and yields of future crops, and to achieve specific quality requirements.

There are several types of fertilizer used that contribute potassium to a fertilizer blend (MOP, K-mag and SOP). When preparing a fertilizer mix for a crop, the following variables should be considered; economics, method of application/crop safety, crop requirements/removal and current soil levels.
